Two months ago Kimberly Axelrad’s son Scott was killed in a fatal motorcycle crash in Modesto, California. Axelrad is seeking answers from police and witnesses who can help shed light on what happened. She says she needs closure.

Scott Corley was riding his motorcycle in Modesto and the fatal crash happened when he tried to pass a tractor trailer but was unable to and lost control. The accident report released by the California Highway Patrol relates that Scott was traveling behind the tractor trailer and was blocked in. He wanted to pass but the driver of the tractor trailer maneuvered the vehicle over to the shoulder so that Scott was unable to get by. So Scott, determined to pass the truck, sped up in another attempt to pass the tractor trailer. But as he sped up he lost control of his bike and ended up crashing into the back end of the tractor trailer he was trying to pass. Scott died upon impact.
The truck driver continued driving and did not stop. There was a witness of the accident who saw the chain of events unfold. Axelrad is asking for help identifying the truck driver and is hoping somebody can provide some information that will help her find the truck driver.

Scott was determined to be at fault for the accident but Axelrad still would like the truck driver to come forward and share what happened. Any more information that could be offered regarding what happened could help to give her closure, she says. The California Highway Patrol, as well as other members of Scott’s family, are asking the driver to please come forward and give his version of what happened.

Police also want to know whether or not the truck driver realized that there had been an accident and that Scott had been seriously injured. Depending on the extent of the knowledge and understanding of what happened, the driver could be guilty of failing to stop and render aid, as is required by law. California Highway Patrol officer Daniel Sepulveda notes that the driver could be liable for a hit and run if he realized that he had been involved in an accident and had hit somebody.

Scott is also survived by his pregnant fiancé. The couple was expecting a child.

Kimberly Axelrad just wants closure and would like the rest of the puzzle pieces to fit together so that she can help her son rest in peace.

“Every morning I wake up, and I have to remember my son is dead.” Axelrad said.

Closure for families of accident victims is hard to come by. After a fatal accident, families must pick up the pieces and try to make sense of what has happened. Even if an accident has resulted in injuries but no fatalities, the aftermath of an accident can be incredibly difficult to deal with emotionally, physically, and financially.
