In Rancho Cucamonga, California a 4 year old girl was killed in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, September 10.

The child, Breann Creer, was riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by her mother’s boyfriend, Eric Henderson, when the motorcycle collided with a big rig that was attempting to make a U-turn. Both Henderson and the child were thrown from the bike and witnesses say that the rig then backed over the girl’s body. The truck driver, dragging the motorcycle, kept driving until bystanders flagged the driver down. Bystanders believed that the truck driver never even realized that he had hit the motorcycle or the child.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Henderson sustained moderate injuries, was taken to the hospital but soon released.

Corporal Randy Naquin of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has stated “At this point, from what I can tell on the street, it doesn’t appear to be any type of illegal maneuver. However, the major accident investigation team is going to determine the exact cause.”

Friends of the family said that Henderson had been dating the girl’s mother for around a year. Henderson had picked the girl up from school on his bike and was taking him to her home nearby.

Henderson is claiming that the truck driver failed to signal before making the U-turn right in front of him.

According to police, children are legally allowed to ride on a motorcycle if they are wearing a helmet and if their legs can reach the bike’s passenger pegs. The girl’s father said that he believed Henderson had been safe and believes that the truck driver was negligent. He said that Henderson was like another father to the child and took every precaution to keep her safe.

And in Maryland an Anne Arundel County man was seriously injured in a crash last week.

The Thursday accident happened around 3:45 on Route 6 near Culver Lane In Charlotte Hall. Donald Lee Fridell Jr., 52, and Lawrence Francis Jones, 81, were both out riding their motorcycles when a driver of an Amish horse and buggy drove directly into their path, in an attempt at making a turn onto Culver Lane.

Jones engaged his rear brakes and was able to stay on his bike, though he fell to the ground. But Fridell was thrown from his bike and emergency responders found him in a nearby ditch, unconscious. He was immediately flown to Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.
Jones was also injured but his injuries were non life-threatening and he was treated at a nearby hospital.

There is an ongoing investigation. Sheriffs are saying, however, that it does not appear that either speed or alcohol were factors in causing the crash.
